MEMBER Engineering graduate or equivalent with minimum 4 year experience, Diploma engineer with minimum 8 Years experience, graduate in any discipline minimum 8 years experience and any other qualification minimum 15 years experience in the field of welding
ASSOCIATE MEMBER
Engineering graduate or equivalent with less than 4 years experience, Diploma engineer with less than 8 years experience. Graduate in any discipline less than 8 years experience and any other qualification minimum 5 years but less than 15 Years experience in the field of welding
JUNIOR MEMBER
Any individual registering to take IWS examination or not meeting above requirements for member and associate member.
CERTIFIED MEMBER Any individual after successful completion of IWS prescribed examination.

INTERNATIONAL CO – OPERATIONS The society has close interaction with CII. Messe Essen, Messe Dusseldorf India, German Welding Society, Singapore Welding Society, Welding Technology Institute, of Australia, etc., to keep its members aware of global development in the welding field. It has entered into an MOU with Singapore Welding Society, it is exploring the possibilities of joining hands with other international welding associations. It is one of the founder members of Asian Welding Federation (AWF). IWS was represented by Shri D S Honavar, Patron, Western Zone and Shri M L Gehani, Chairman, International Committee at the ESSEN 2005. They delivered lectures on the Indian Day.

• International Welding Symposium (IWS 2K3) on the theme ‘Emerging trends in welding’ in February 2003 at Hyderabad.

• A Workshop on ‘Safety Health & Environmental Issues related to Welding’ on June 28th 2003 at Mumbai.
• Two days National Workshop on ‘Welding Technology in India – Present Status & Future Trends, on 25th April, 2003.
• National Workshop on ‘Titanium Welding – Procedures and Techniques’ at Visakhapatnam on 12th and 13th August 2003.

COURSES AND TECHNICAL TALKS
The Society is conducting various training programmes in welding and allied areas through its centres and zones. It also conducts technical talks by the experts in welding for the benefit of its members.

It is proposed to conduct refresher programmes in welding for practicing welders in their mother tongue. As a first step, IWS conducted programme in Tamil through its Coimbatore & Chennai Centres.

IWS JOURNAL
The Society publishers “IWS JOURNAL”, a quarterly issue. The journal carries technical papers, news about seminars / Workshops, new information about welding and allied areas.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS
• IWS has instituted THE PRESTIGIOUS LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD to honour and recognize the yeomen services of individuals to the welding fraternity in this part of the world.
• IWS has instituted the prestigious life time achievement award to honour and recognize the yeomen services of individual to the welding fraternity in this part of the world.
• IWS is proud to confer the first IWS LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD on Shri D S HONOVAR and the second “. ISMAIL MEMORIAL LIFE TIME ACHIECEMENT AWARD” was conferred on Dr. Baldev Raj. The 3” one was conferred on Shri M L Gehani. Shri J K Nanda is the fourth recipient of IWS LT award.
• The MODI award and IWS award are being given for best technical papers presented in IWS symposium.
• IWS Instituted ‘Young Technologist Award’ for individuals.
• ‘National Welders’ skill Competition (NAWELSCOM) to motivate practicing welders in India.
• IWS has instituted GB-SOJOM RESEARCH SCHOLAR AWARD to recognize the best paper presented by research scholars in SOJOMS.
• SK. MAZUMDER MEMORIAL AWARD to eminent personalities for the contribution in the field of materials joining.
• ‘Mailam Award’ and ‘AWPM Award’ for Best Papers in International Welding Symposium.
• Prof. Dr. DRG ACHAR Memorial Award for the faculty members of Engineering institution in recognition of their distinguished services to the Welding Technology and Welding Fraternity in the zone.

PIONEERING EFFORTS IN HR
• IWS has launched Diploma Courses in Welding Engineering & Welding Inspection in technical collaboration with Annamalai University through distance learning mode.
• IWS has entered into a MOU With Periyar Maniammai University to train & develop welders from the non organised sectors & the rural youth.
• IWS conducted training programmes for the faculty of ITI.
• IWS is conducting programme for corporates like GAIL, Welspun etc.
• To enhance the employable opportunities of fresh graduates, it is conducting evening courses on welding technology.
• Special courses are organized for women

IN THE NEAR FUTURE
• IWS will introduce certified welding inspectors’ course and web based programmes for engineers & supervisors.
• A handbook for welders in local languages.
• Introduction of IWS examination.
